After a short spell of R&R everyone set off on the 20 minute drive to the bowl for a 6 o’clock practice session. This was followed by a group meal at Nandos across from the bowl then back to the hotel for a good nights rest ready for the contest the next day.
Saturday morning and an early start for the opening ceremony. The other teams competing this year were Wales, Scotland, Ireland and a men’s team from Guernsey.
After the opening it was the men’s singles up first and the lanes proved to be difficult for everyone there being a distinct lack of oil.
The ladies followed with a slightly easier pattern and we finished the day with the doubles event after which the team crossed the car park to Frankie and Bennys for a late evening meal.
Sunday was a later 9am start with ladies and men’s trios and then the team event all this concluding at 5pm.
A return to the hotel for a wash and brush-up and then out to the venue for the buffet disco where a good time was had by all.
My thanks go to Kay Rogers and her Welsh Committee for all their hard work over the weekend. Also can I thank Team England, Brunswick and BTBA Head Office for their continued support and help for YAC Team England.
Lastly a big thank you to Laura Marcham and Laura Ivory for their dedication and support of the YAC over many years. They have both now reached the age when they will have to leave us. We will miss you and wish you all the best in your future bowling, love and best wishes to you both.
